Changelog

New features, improvements, and updates to AI Novel Translation.

Expanding Text Direction Support to DOCX

  • Automatic text direction in DOCX files - Similar to EPUB, when translating between right-to-left and left-to-right languages (e.g., Arabic to English or English to Hebrew), translated DOCX files now automatically update their text direction so they display correctly in Microsoft Word or Google Docs. This covers our supported languages (e.g., Arabic, Hebrew, Persian, and Urdu). If you need support for an additional language, just reach out.

Local Currency Support

  • Local currency support for credit purchases - We've heard from translators, editors, readers, and authors around the world that they'd love to pay in their own currency. Now you can. When purchasing credits, the checkout experience automatically detects your location and presents pricing in your local currency — supporting 150+ currencies across the globe.

Projects Page Redesign

  • Redesigned projects page - We've given your projects page a fresh coat of paint. Step into a personal library of your translations — each project styled as its own book on the shelf, with color-coded language badges so you can spot your language pairs at a glance.

Smarter Glossary Generation

  • Glossary terms are reviewed for consistency as they're generated - When generating a glossary for a project, AI Novel Translation now periodically reviews newly generated terms against the terms it's already created. This catches inconsistencies that can happen across a long document — like the same character name being spelled slightly differently in chapter 1 vs. chapter 101. If a term is updated after review, it's flagged so you can see exactly what changed and why. We're particularly excited about this enhancement to one of our favorite features, Glossary AI, as it further pushes the boundaries on getting that "perfectly" consistent read while enabling your style to easily be reflected across novel-length translations. It's available today for both Batch and Chapter Translation.

More Natural DocX & EPUB Formatting & Spacing

  • Expanded formatting coverage in translated EPUBs - Formatting now matches the standard typographic conventions for the target languages more faithfully. For example, italics in Japanese will be naturalized for English.

  • Naturalized spacing between languages - Translated documents will naturalize word spacing when translating between languages with different spacing conventions (e.g., Japanese to English, Spanish to Chinese, etc).

Edit AI Cost Refunds & Translation Reliability

  • Edit AI cost refunds - If Edit AI finds no edits to suggest, or you choose to reject all suggested edits, we now refund most of the editing cost automatically. The better the translation, the less you pay — quality work from the earlier steps saves you money.

  • Improved translation reliability - Some users previously reported that translations would very rarely be cut off or missing for select passages. We've identified and resolved the underlying cause. If you're still encountering this, please reach out to us directly and we'll solve this expediently as always.

  • More flexible .txt file support - Some txt files would not process before starting a batch translation due to various formatting solutions across the software landscape. We've updated our software to be more resilient and flexible for .txt files.

  • Enhanced .docx format preservation - Translated .docx files now better preserve the formatting of complex document structures. Whether your source is a novel with richly styled chapter headings, a report with tabulated data, or a document that's been through multiple editing (we've been there...), the translated output will more faithfully retain the original layout and structure.

Fixed punctuation rendering during Edit AI

  • Fixed punctuation and special character rendering - Resolved reported issues where special punctuation characters during AI editing would appear as specially encoded text rather than rendering as the proper characters. This occasionally affected both chapter and batch translations.

Translation AI and Glossary AI reach new levels of fluency

  • Significant boost to translation fluency - We've leveled up our translation AI to deliver noticeably more natural, fluent output. Translations now more fluent in more languages, read more smoothly across all long passages, and capture tone and nuance more accurately. Available for both batch and chapter translation.

  • Smarter Glossary AI - We've refined the AI glossary generation for better fluency and more accurate term identification. Expect cleaner, more contextually appropriate glossary suggestions. Also available for both batch and chapter translation.

  • Updated translation pricing - To achieve the above fluency, costs for translation have been updated. In our evaluations and early user testing, the improved fluency and accuracy have made this tradeoff worthwhile.

  • Consistent line spacing - Significantly reduced likelihood where line spacing could be inconsistent between the original text and translated output during Chapter Translation (not Batch).

New Docs Section

  • User guide added - We've added a full Docs section with guides covering Getting Started, Key Concepts, Chapter Translation, Batch Translation, Glossary Management, and Pricing & Credits. Each page includes screenshots and walkthroughs to help you get the most out of the platform.

  • FAQ moved to Docs - The FAQ is now part of the Docs section for a single place to find all help resources.

Edit AI: Smarter Editing & Live Visibility

  • More thorough AI editing - We refined how the AI editor analyzes translations. Edits now catch more nuance — subtle phrasing improvements, naturalness issues, and stylistic suggestions that were previously missed. This applies to both batch and chapter translations.

  • Updated editing pricing - To achieve the above higher quality, expect to see a higher cost for editing services moving forward. In our evaluations, we believe the improved accuracy and depth make this a worthwhile tradeoff.

  • Watch edits happen in real time - As the AI editor works through your chapter, you can now see each edit streamed live — the original text and its replacement — so you know exactly what's changing as it happens. The best part? It's available to both chapter and batch translation immediately.
